Custom Precision Manufacturing

Custom Pump Shaft Sleeves: Precision Machined to Your Specifications

Pump shaft sleeves are critical components in rotating equipment, acting as the primary interface between the shaft and the mechanical seal or packing gland. In environments involving high-pressure fluids, abrasive slurries, or corrosive chemicals, the integrity of these sleeves directly dictates the service life of the pump and the reliability of the mechanical seal.

SleeveMFG specializes in the custom manufacturing of pump shaft sleeves for industrial pump OEMs, repair facilities, and MRO service providers. We manufacture directly from your engineering drawings, 3D models, or worn samples, ensuring that critical dimensions, fits, and surface finishes meet original equipment manufacturer specifications or upgraded requirements.

Engineering-Driven Quality

Critical Technical Requirements in Pump Sleeve Manufacturing

Manufacturing a pump shaft sleeve requires more than basic turning. The function of the sleeve—to protect the shaft while providing a smooth, concentric surface for seal faces—demands strict adherence to geometric and dimensional tolerances.

Concentricity and Runout

Essential to prevent premature seal failure and vibration. We maintain strict control over runout, often down to 0.01 mm, to ensure the sleeve rotates true on the shaft axis.

Surface Finish

The seal contact area requires specific surface roughness, typically Ra 0.2 μm to 0.4 μm, to maintain a hydrodynamic film and prevent leakage. We achieve these finishes through precision OD grinding and controlled polishing processes.

Dimensional Fits

Whether the application requires a clearance fit or a precision interference fit such as H6/h6 or H7/h6, our machining processes ensure the bore and outside diameters are held within the tightest tolerance bands.

Wall Thickness Control

Thin-wall sleeves require specific work-holding techniques to prevent distortion during machining, ensuring the part remains cylindrical once installed.

In-House Machining & Grinding

Precision Machining & Grinding Capabilities

SleeveMFG utilizes a combination of CNC turning and precision grinding to produce sleeves that meet exact engineering requirements. Our facility in Dongguan is equipped to handle complex profiles, including shoulders, grooves for O-rings, keyways, and threaded sections.

We operate a range of CNC lathes and grinders, allowing us to manage the entire production flow in-house. This ensures that every step—from initial turning to final grinding—is monitored for quality and dimensional accuracy.

Parameter Capability
Outside Diameter Ø3 mm – Ø500 mm
Inside Diameter Ø1 mm – Ø450 mm
Length Up to 1500 mm
Grinding Tolerance ±0.005 mm
Concentricity Down to 0.01 mm
Roundness Down to 0.005 mm
Surface Finish Down to Ra 0.2 μm

Material Options

Material Selection for Demanding Pumping Environments

The operating environment dictates the material choice. We machine a comprehensive range of metals suitable for various pump applications, including corrosive, high-temperature, and high-wear environments.

We can source materials per ASTM, DIN, or JIS standards and provide full material traceability and chemical/mechanical test reports upon request.

Stainless Steels

  • 316L and 304L for general corrosion resistance
  • 17-4PH and 15-5PH for high-strength applications requiring superior hardness

Corrosion-Resistant Alloys

  • Inconel, Monel, and Hastelloy for aggressive chemical processing and offshore pump applications

Hardened Steels

  • 4140, 4340, and bearing steels such as GCr15/52100 for applications requiring high fatigue strength and wear resistance

Copper Alloys

  • Bronze and Aluminum Bronze for specific bushing and sleeve applications

Wear & Corrosion Resistance

Secondary Processes for Wear and Corrosion Resistance

Many pump sleeves require post-machining surface treatments to achieve the necessary hardness or corrosion resistance. SleeveMFG coordinates a full suite of secondary operations to deliver a finished, ready-to-install component.

Heat Treatment

  • Quenching, tempering, and induction hardening to increase base material hardness

Surface Coatings

  • Hard chrome plating, electroless nickel plating, and PVD/DLC coatings to enhance wear resistance and reduce friction at the seal interface

Corrosion Protection

  • Passivation for stainless steel components and specialized black oxide or phosphating treatments

Full Product Lifecycle Support

Manufacturing Flexibility for OEMs and MROs

We support the full product lifecycle, from initial prototyping to batch production.

For OEMs

We provide consistent, repeatable manufacturing for production runs. We work with your drawings to ensure every sleeve in a batch matches the exact design specification, with documentation to support your quality requirements.

For MRO and Repair

We manufacture replacement sleeves when parts are obsolete or long lead times from the original manufacturer are not an option. We can reverse-engineer from worn samples or partial drawings to get your equipment back in service quickly.

Verified Quality

Quality Control and Inspection

Every sleeve undergoes rigorous inspection before leaving our facility. Our QC department uses calibrated instrumentation to verify all critical dimensions.

CMM Inspection

For complex geometries and profile verification.

Precision Gauging

Bore gauges, micrometers, and height gauges for dimensional verification.

Surface Testing

Profilometers to verify Ra values on seal contact surfaces.

Documentation

We provide inspection reports and material certificates with your shipment to ensure compliance with your quality system.
