Custom Alloy Steel Sleeves: Precision Machined to Your Drawing

SleeveMFG provides custom manufacturing services for alloy steel sleeves, bushings, and spacers. We produce components based directly on customer engineering drawings and specifications, focusing on parts that require tight tolerances, specific material grades, and controlled geometric features for pumps, power transmission, and heavy machinery.

We do not supply off-the-shelf catalog parts. Our process is built for made-to-print manufacturing, ensuring that every sleeve matches your design requirements for fit, function, and material properties.

Material Selection

Alloy Steel Material Selection

The performance of a sleeve is determined by the base material. We maintain a steady supply of industrial-grade alloy and carbon steels suited for high-load, high-wear, and high-impact applications. Our machine shop is optimized for the following grades:

Standard Carbon Steels

1018 1045

For general structural and spacer applications.

Chromium-Molybdenum Alloys

4130 4140 42CrMo

Standard for high-strength, fatigue-resistant shafts and sleeves.

Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum Alloys

4340

For high-toughness, deep-hardening applications.

Bearing & Tool Steels

52100 GCr15 D2

For wear-resistant bushings and hardened contact surfaces.

If your engineering design requires a specific international standard (ASTM, AISI, DIN, JIS) or a custom chemical composition, we source raw materials from verified steel mills and provide material test reports (MTRs) with your shipment.

Precision Machining

Capabilities Held to Tight Tolerances

Machining alloy steel requires a balance of speed, feed, and tooling geometry to manage heat and maintain dimensional stability. Our facility utilizes CNC turning and grinding processes to hold tolerances that standard machine shops often struggle to achieve.

We specialize in parts that require multiple operations — from first cut to final fit.

Process Parameter SleeveMFG Capability

A Typical Multi-Operation Production Run

1

CNC Turning

Blanking, profiling, and boring to ±0.01 mm on CNC lathes.

2

Hardening

Heat treatment coordinated with specialized local partners to reach specified hardness.

3

Precision Grinding

Centerless or ID/OD grinding to ±0.005 mm, meeting critical fit requirements such as H7/h6 for bearing housings.

Heat Treatment & Surface Modification

Engineered to Survive the Operating Environment

Alloy steel components often require heat treatment to survive the operating environment. We coordinate with specialized local heat-treatment partners to ensure the mechanical properties of your sleeves meet design specifications. Common post-machining processes include:

01

Through Hardening

Quenching and tempering for uniform hardness throughout the cross-section.

02

Case Hardening

Carburizing or nitriding to create a hard, wear-resistant surface while maintaining a tough, ductile core.

03

Induction Hardening

Selective hardening for areas subject to high friction, such as bearing journals or seal faces.

04

Surface Protection

Black oxide, zinc plating, or electroless nickel plating to provide the required level of corrosion resistance for your specific application.

Quality Control

Inspection on Every Batch

SleeveMFG follows a rigorous inspection protocol for every batch. We treat dimensions, geometry, and material integrity as critical variables.

Our inspection department uses calibrated equipment, including CMMs, profile projectors, bore gauges, and surface roughness testers.

All production orders include inspection reports and, upon request, material certification documentation.

  • ✓

    Dimensional Accuracy

All diameters, lengths, and wall thicknesses verified against the drawing.

  • ✓

    Geometric Tolerances

Concentricity, roundness, and cylindricity checked for rotational balance.

  • ✓

    Fitment

Bores checked against gauges to ensure proper clearance or interference fits.

  • ✓

    Surface Integrity

Finish requirements confirmed to prevent premature seal or bearing failure.

Industries & Applications

Applications for Alloy Steel Sleeves

We manufacture components for companies operating in demanding industrial sectors. Alloy steel is selected for these applications due to its high strength-to-weight ratio and ability to be heat treated for specific hardness levels.

Pump & Fluid Handling

Seal sleeves, shaft sleeves, and wear rings that require resistance to mechanical stress and fluid pressure.

Power Transmission

Spacer sleeves, couplings, and bearing sleeves that support rotational loads.

Mining & Heavy Equipment

Hardened bushings and sleeves designed for high-impact and abrasive environments.

Automotive & Industrial Machinery

Precision-ground components where dimensional stability under load is critical.
